March 30, 2026

Hanover Township Fire Department was dispatched at 01:26 hours along with the remainder of the 1st Alarm Assignment to Maria Dr. in the Sunny Hill Development, located in the Newtown Section of the Township on the reported structure fire. Engine 1 quickly responded, while units were enroute updated information was received from Hanover Township Police Department on location reporting a working fire on the "Charlie" side of the home involving a fence and the exterior siding of the structure.

Upon arrival, Engine 1 obtained it's own water supply from the Hydrant at Anna Dr & Maria Dr and laid into the scene, firefighter's had nothing evident from 3 sides of the structure but quickly identified fire conditions on the exterior "Charlie" side of the residence and initiated an aggressive attack . Due to rapid deployment of a 2 inch hose line and fast water application, crews were able to contain the fire before it extended into the interior of the home.

The fire was successfully held to the exterior of the structure and an adjacent fence, preventing further damage and limiting impact to the residence.

This incident highlights the critical importance of quick response times and getting water on the fire as fast as possible. Early suppression efforts play a key role in limiting fire growth, reducing property damage, and improving overall safety for both occupants and responding personnel.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Hanover Township crews were assisted on location by Hanover Township Ambulance as well as mutual aid units from the City of Wilkes Barre Fire Department and Ashley Rescue.
